In the south of the Eure Department in Verneuil d'Avre et d'Iton, visit Saint Nicolas’ Abbey in the heart of the town.

Located in the old part of Verneuil d'Avre et d'Iton, Saint Nicolas' Abbey was founded in 1627 for Benedictine nuns. Among the Norman abbeys, this one in Verneuil is one of the rare ones to be still standing at its original location. Monastic life came to a stop in 2001. The monastic buildings form a quadrangle adjoining Saint Nicolas' Church.

Towards the countryside, the grounds are bordered by former ditches and a part of the former fortification wall that used to surround the fortified town in the 12th century.
