Near the town of Vernon, in the village of Giverny so dear to Claude Monet, the exceptional exhibitions put on at the Musée des Impressionnismes will delight you. Entrance is free to the permanent museum collections in Vernon, Louviers, Bernay and Evreux. You can learn much about the history of the county of the Eure, from far back in time right up to the present, and also about the social history of its significant textile history and its fine arts as well as the crafts that have thrived around the region, especially those linked to farming.

Perhaps you’re after a unique museum to go on an unusual outing with friends? Head to the Musée de l’Ecorché d’Anatomie (a medical museum displaying life-like anatomical models made from papier mâché!) in Le Neubourg or the Musée Maison Bergerin Grand Bourgtheroulde, run by a company that has long specialised in producing extraordinary lights and is accredited as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (a Living Heritage Company).
